After breakfast this morning, we were waiting at the entrance to the scenic Lemaire Channel, when a large cruise ship decided to jump the
queue so to speak, and ploughed on past very closely. Apparently the exchange of words across the radio in the bridge was something to be
heard, even if it was in German from Monika!
The channel is a 7‑mile long, one‑mile wide passage running in a northeast‑to‑ southwest‑and west direction from Splitwind Island and
Cape False Renard to Roulin Point and Cape Cloos. It separates Booth Island from the Antarctic Peninsula.
Cruising the Lemaire Channel is normally a spectacular experience. It is often caked with ice and the high snow covered mountains on both
sides are impressive. Unfortunately, this morning was heavily overcast, and we only saw a glimpse of the surrounding landscape.
